Brassica oleracea convar. acephala. Grow all the year round as a 'baby leaf' indoors on the windowsill. Outdoors if given wider spacing it will make an abundance of densely curled leaves over a very long period. Winter hardy as a full sized plant.
Sowing Info
Sow seeds from March to May outside, or sow and eat all year round as a 'babyleaf' indoors. Sow seeds thinly direct outside or in containers, 13mm (½in) deep.
Growing Info
Thin as necessary or transplant to 2cm (8in) apart for mid sized leaves or to 37cm (14½in) for larger plants.
Aftercare Info
Keep well watered during dry weather. Can also be sown regularly in pots of seed sowing mix on the windowsill for a continuous supply of 'baby leaves'. If a few plants are missed and not picked as salad leaves, these can be planted into large containers and left to mature as large kale plants for winter use.
