Assumpta Broomfield: Old Garden Roses

Renowned rose expert Assumpta will take you on A Magical Journey of Scent and Searching for old shrubs Roses. Assumpta Broomfield is one of Ireland’s most accomplished gardeners a graduate of National Botanic Gardens, she has taken a particular interest in roses, especially those old and dearly cherished roses we associated with older gardens. She has very actively sought out many of these old cultivars, propagated them and distributed them to ensure they will be grown by future generations. She is a noted world expert on snowdrops and has travelled on three botanical expeditions to China, she has lectured throughout Ireland and with Robert Miller she organised and constructed the Corona North Commemorative Border at Altamont.

Dr. Tom Curtis: A Botanist and Gardener’s Guide to Plants and Gardens

Renowned Botanist and Gardener Dr. Tom Curtis will guide us through his world travels and how the plants of the world can be used in your garden. Dr Tom Curtis is a professional botanist and horticulturist with over 40 years’ experience. A graduate of The National Botanic Gardens and U.C.D., his doctorate from TCD was awarded for his work on Irish and European orchids. He has worked on rare plant conservation for over 20 years. He is the author of many books, the latest of which just published , he co-authored with Paul Whelan ‘The wild Food Plants of Ireland’ is a guide to their recognition, foraging, cooking history and conservation. He is research Associate in the Dept of Botany TCD and adjunct Lecturer in Botany and Plant Science at the N.U I. Galway

Iain MacDonald:  Go Forth and Multiply – a guide to increasing your Plants

Experienced plant propagator shares the lessons of a lifetime. Iain MacDonald is an experienced plant propagator, noted teacher, garden designer and writer, he trained at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew and has been designing and landscaping gardens throughout the country for the past forty years. He has worked on public projects but specialises in private gardens, both town and country. With his wife, Frances he has developed a two acre garden at The Bay Garden in Co. Wexford, a showpiece for his work which is open to the public during the summer months. He escorts garden tours abroad for the Travel Department.

Alan Gray:  Alan’s world, a place of fun, frolics and fantasy with plants.

Creator of the world famous garden East Ruston Old Vicarage. Alan Gray and his partner Graham have pushed the boundaries of horticulture creating one of England’s most magical gardens at East Ruston Old Vicarage, in Norfolk. Since 1973 they have crafted a garden of over 32 acres from a rugged landscape that is so crammed with unusual plants that they are truly reminiscent of botanical gardens around the world. From the exotic to native wild flowers they have created a masterpiece that is considered a national treasure. Alan hosts a weekly gardening programme for BBC Radio and writes for many publications including the RHS ‘The Garden’.
