How to Grow Christmas Potatoes
Christmas potatoes are specially prepared seed potatoes that have been kept in cold storage to allow late planting.
Planting Time
August.
Position
Choose a sunny, sheltered location.
Soil
Plant in fertile, well-drained soil enriched with compost or well-rotted organic matter.
Containers
Perfect for growing in:
- Potato bags
- Large tubs
- Raised beds
- Vegetable plots
Use a container at least 40cm wide and deep.
Planting Depth
Plant 10-15cm deep.
Spacing
30cm between tubers with 60cm between rows.
Watering
Keep compost consistently moist throughout the growing season, particularly during dry weather.
Feeding
Feed with Mr Middleton Seaweed Feed to maximise crop size and maintain healthy foliage.
Earthing Up
As shoots emerge, cover them with compost or soil, leaving only the tips visible. Repeat until the container is full or ridges are formed.
Harvest
Lift from early December onwards once the plants begin to die back. For the freshest Christmas dinner, simply harvest as required.
