This small red berry is reputed to contain, weight for weight, more vitamin C than oranges, more beta-carotene than carrots and more iron than steak- hence its label as a the new “superfood”.

The Goji berry is rich in antioxidants, vitamins and trace elements and is said to help eyesight, the immune system, circulation and the liver. It is very important in Chinese medicine and is further used to slow down the ageing process. It’s very sweet and tastes something like a cross between a cranberry and a cherry. It is known as the “happy berry” because of the sense of well-being it induces!

You can grow this “new” superfood at home in any well-drained soil in a sunny position. They are drought tolerant and hardy down to about -15C, and grow to 6ft. One plant should yield about 1kg of fruit in its second year.
