Splendid crimson-red flowerspikes are borne in profusion, putting on an impressive display in spring and summer. An eye-catching specimen for a sunny shrub border, the new foliage emerges with a pinkish-red flush, but turn dark green with age. The leaves will release a delicious lemon scent when crushed.
This tree, when in flower, is one of the most unusual, and stunning, trees I have seen. The flowers are like babies' bottle brushes in red. When the flower dies, it leaves a cone-like thing which ends up becoming part of the tree. So, the tree has these dotted shapes along the branches which used to be flowers but turn into wood. I hope that my tree survives the harsh climate of Donegal, but only time will tell.
My plant arrived in less than 48 hours after my ordering it. It was carefully packed and when I opened it I found it in tip top condition. I have planted it, watered it and gave it a little "feed" and now look forward to seeing it flourish. Mr. Middleton never disapapoints.
