Paeonia Buckeye Belle

A fabulous hybrid peony with a unique colouring, award-winner Peony 'Buckeye Belle' is one of the most sought after peonies! Imagine semi-double, velvety blossoms of the deepest and darkest red, almost chocolate, with large outer petals surrounding narrow inner petals interspersed with sparkling golden staminodes. Irresistible! Perfectly formed, they are borne in profusion on strong, erect stems and do not need staking. Quite short with a neat, compact habit, it is a marvellous accent plant. Blooming heavily in late spring - early summer . 'Buckeye Belle' makes excellent cut flowers with a long vase life (over a week) if cut in bud. Enjoy a magnificent bouquet of chocolate-red peonies . Winner of the prestigious American Peony Society Gold Medal . Reliable and vigorous, this herbaceous Peony grows in a lush, bushy mound of glossy, dark green, divided foliage reaching up to 45-60 cm and in spread (60-75 cm). The foliage remains attractive throughout summer until frost and often colours up in the autumn..

Peonies produce their extravagant display in early June every year, regardless of weather, because they are among the most durable and longest-lived plants. They have no natural enemies, no exacting cultural requirements beyond full sun and good sweet soil, and they shrug off cold. After bloom is complete, you are left with a handsome mound of glossy, deep green foliage that will happily anchor the next sequence of flowers in the border. Finally, Peonies make superior cut flowers, lasting more than a week if cut in full bud.

We ship large roots that are fresh from the growing fields. While a newly planted Peony seldom makes a first-class show in its first season, these vigorous plants will reach the top of their form in their second or third year and will then last for generations.
