Paeonia lactiflora 'Sarah Bernhardt' is an old standard that features very large, very fragrant, rose-pink double flowers. Blooms in later season. In makes an excellent cut flower.

An all times favourite, award-winner Peony 'Sarah Bernhardt' (Paeonia lactiflora) is outrageously beautiful in bloom! The very large, 8 in. wide (20 cm),and delightfully fragrant, rose-pink double flowers, with delicately ruffled inner petals occasionally flecked with raspberry will take your breath away every spring.  Flowering heavily in late spring - early summer, this late midseason peony will flower for approximately weeks. 'Sarah Bernhardt' makes excellent cut flowers with a long vase life if cut in bud .

Recipient of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society . Reliable and vigorous, this herbaceous peony grows in a lush, bushy mound of glossy, deep green, divided foliage reaching up to 100cm. in height

The foliage remains attractive throughout summer until frost and colours up well in the autumn.

Peonies are amazingly long-term-lived plants staying around  more than 50 years,  these plants will reward you for years to come producing exceptional flowers every season . Peonies prefer to be planted in a sunny spot with a well-drained soil. A good quality air flow circulation available around the plant is also very important . Peonies are very trouble free , but remember to choose a good spot where they can be happy for 50 years.  Prepare a planting hole designed for a bareroot peony, dig the ground to the level around 12-18inches. Best in deep, fertile, humus-rich soil that is moist but well-drained in a sheltered position in full sun or partial shade Long-lived but resents disturbance. Make use of a garden fork to release the edges of the planting hole at the same time. It is really essential that the "eyes", or growth nodes, situated near the base of the old stem, end up no greater than 6 cms inches below the ground surface.
