A flavoursome type of chive with flat, grassy foliage with a mild garlic flavour. Ideal for salads, stews, fish, meat or egg dishes, the buds and flowers are also edible and can be stir fried. Easy to grow, ideal for pots or the herb garden.
Sowing Info
Sow seed on the surface of the compost and cover with a sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Place in a propagator or seal container inside a polythene bag and keep at 20-25°C (68-77°F) until after germination which takes up to 21 days. Do not exclude light, as this helps germination. Can also be sown outdoors once the ground has warmed, 13mm (½in) deep, in rows 20cm (8in) apart.
Growing Info
Transplant seedlings into 7.5cm (3in) pots. Grow on in cooler conditions for a few days before planting out after all risk of frost, 30cm (12in) apart.
