Description

One of the great classic daffodils, Narcissus ‘Carlton’ is an outstanding choice for anyone looking to create a bold and dependable spring display on a larger scale. Its large, rich golden-yellow flowers appear in spring, producing the unmistakable splash of colour that makes daffodils such an important part of the Irish garden.

Carlton is particularly suitable for naturalising in grass, woodland edges, roadside planting, large borders, commercial landscapes and extensive garden schemes. Once established, the bulbs can remain undisturbed for years, gradually increasing to produce an even more impressive display.

Our bulk packs make Carlton an economical choice where substantial quantities of bulbs are required.

Why We Chose It

Carlton has earned its reputation through decades of reliable garden performance. It is vigorous, colourful, weather resistant and particularly well suited to the Irish climate.

Mr Middleton Verdict

One of the best all-round daffodils for bulk planting. If you want a traditional mass of golden daffodils returning each spring, Carlton is difficult to beat.

Garden Designer’s Tip

For the most natural effect, avoid planting in straight lines. Scatter handfuls of bulbs across the planting area and plant them where they fall. In grass, use broad sweeps and irregular groups to create the appearance of naturally established colonies.

Planting & Growing

· Planting period: September–December

· Flowering: Spring

· Flower colour: Golden yellow

· Position: Full sun or partial shade

· Soil: Most reasonably well-drained garden soils

· Planting depth: Approximately 10–15cm

· Spacing: Approximately 10–15cm apart

· Naturalising: Excellent

· Hardiness: Fully hardy

Plant bulbs with the pointed end upwards. Water after planting if conditions are particularly dry.

For stronger growth and flowering, apply Mr Middleton Seaweed Feed when planting and again as growth develops in early spring.

After flowering, allow the foliage to die back naturally before cutting or mowing. The leaves replenish the bulb and help ensure another strong display the following spring.

Ideal For

Large gardens, lawns, orchards, woodland gardens, estates, schools, hotels, golf courses, public landscapes and large-scale spring planting.

Irish grown by Mr Middleton – Irish owned Irish gardening specialists since 1974.
