Description

If you are planting a large area and want a varied, natural-looking display rather than a single uniform daffodil, our Mixed Varieties of Daffodils are an excellent choice.

This bulk mixture contains a selection of narcissi chosen to provide variation in flower shape, colour, height and appearance. The result is a relaxed spring display particularly well suited to naturalising.

Rather than hundreds of identical flowers appearing together, the mixture creates the impression of a daffodil population that has developed naturally over time.

It is an exceptionally economical solution for covering large areas with dependable spring colour.

Why We Chose It

A mixture gives you something a single variety cannot – natural variation. For orchards, lawns, banks and informal landscapes, that diversity can make the finished planting considerably more convincing.

Mr Middleton Verdict

Probably our most versatile choice for naturalising a large area. Scatter them, plant them and leave them to establish. As the clumps increase, the display should become increasingly natural.

Garden Designer’s Tip

Don't over-design a naturalised daffodil planting. Scatter the bulbs by hand and plant them where they land. Add a few denser pockets and leave occasional open spaces – irregularity is what makes naturalised planting believable.

Planting & Growin

  • Planting: September–December

  • Flowering: Spring

  • Colour: Mixed

  • Varieties: Assorted narcissi

  • Position: Full sun or partial shade

  • Soil: Most reasonably well-drained garden soils

  • Planting depth: 10–15cm

  • Spacing:Approximately 10–15cm

Plant bulbs with the pointed end upwards.

For stronger growth and flowering, apply Mr Middleton Seaweed Feed when planting and again as growth develops in early spring.

Allow the foliage to die back naturally following flowering so the bulbs can replenish their reserves for the following season.
