For something completely different from the traditional trumpet daffodil, Narcissus ‘Martinette’ is a wonderfully distinctive and highly fragrant Tazetta-type narcissus.
Each sturdy stem can carry several beautifully scented flowers, with warm yellow petals surrounding a contrasting orange-red cup. The result is a colourful, informal display with the added attraction of fragrance.
Martinette is particularly effective planted in groups close to paths, entrances and seating areas where its perfume can be appreciated. In larger quantities it creates a spectacular display with considerably more character than a conventional single-flowered yellow daffodil.
Why We Chose It
Martinette offers colour, multiple flowers per stem and fragrance. Those three characteristics make it an outstanding addition to a bulk narcissi range.
Mr Middleton Verdict
Don't plant this one where you can't enjoy its scent. Martinette is a wonderful fragrant narcissus, and a generous group close to the house or a regularly used path is a spring treat.
Garden Designer’s Tip
Use Martinette close to a doorway, terrace or path rather than at the far end of the garden. Combine it with purple and deep
blue spring bulbs to emphasise its warm yellow and orange colouring.
